In this program, students are tasked with interviewing their family members about where they come from. After collecting stories, recipes, and any information they can uncover about personal lineage, the students share what they've learned with classmates. Then, in collaboration with Rhapsody instructors, the class writes a song that weaves these threads of personal heritage into a ballad. The class then performs this song together while Rhapsody Instructors accompany them.
Minimum Time: 90 minutes with advance collaboration between classroom teacher(s) and Rhapsody Instructors.
Outcomes: Students gain a deeper knowledge of their own stories, and the history of roots music.
